Corn DDGS
Corn DDGS (Distiller’s Dried Grains with Solubles) is the dry residue left after the corn starch fraction is fermented with yeast to produce ethanol. During the fermentation process, ethanol is extracted through distillation, and the remaining fermentation residue is then dried.

For animals, Corn DDGS is an excellent source of energy and easily digestible protein. It is highly palatable, rich in protein, and provides a good source of cost-effective, organic phosphorus. One of the key benefits of Corn DDGS is that it delivers substantial energy primarily from fat and fiber, minimizing the risk of developing acidosis.
Benefits for Animals
Corn DDGS is one of the most economical and effective choices for feed ingredients, particularly in animal and poultry diets. When included as part of a nutritious, well-balanced diet tailored to the specific needs of the herd, Corn DDGS offers several benefits:
-
Rich Nutritional Profile: Corn DDGS grains are abundant in energy, proteins, fats, minerals (such as phosphorus), and vitamins.

-
Cost-Effective: DDGS can efficiently replace more expensive feed ingredients used in animal diets, such as corn (a traditional energy source) and soybean meal (a protein source).

-
Enhanced Animal Performance: The use of DDGS in animal feed has been shown to improve animal performance, welfare, and the quality of animal products.

-
Improved Reproductive Outcomes: Feeding high levels of Corn DDGS during gestation and/or lactation has been associated with increased litter size in subsequent reproductive cycles, compared to animals fed traditional corn-soybean meal diets.

-
Better Gut Health: Diets containing DDGS may improve gut health in animals, with research indicating a reduction in the incidence and severity of ileitis in growing animals.

-
Environmental Benefits: Corn DDGS reduces phosphorus emissions in manure and does not negatively impact air quality in confined swine facilities.

-
Superior Phosphorus Availability: Corn DDGS contains 0.70% available phosphorus (P), which is 18 times more than the available P (0.04%) in corn. This means the natural P in DDGS is better digested and absorbed by cattle than the P in corn and soybean meal.
